Keywords are out. Relevance is in.

If you’re into fashion like I am, you know things change fast. Just when you find the outfit that goes perfectly with those art deco Louis Vuitton shoes, the trend changes to minimalism. Google’s algorithm is just as fast.

Google describes the algorithm as simply giving you the answer. So as a marketer, copywriter or Web designer, THAT is your job! Not to load up the page with popular keywords or spend the shopping money on hundreds of Google Ads. It’s about a thoughtful combination of keywords, Google Ads, tagged images, inbound links and the clicks that show you helped a user find the answer. If you’re not showing up in Google searches the way you’d like to, this is where to look!

And just like fashion, it’s not something you can do once and be done for life (unless of course you’re Karl Lagerfeld). Tracking updates like Google’s preference for local businesses related to the search will keep your site current and delivering the results you’re looking for.

So get your writers, developers and clients around the table to find out what questions your customers are asking and how you can help answer them. Relevancy will help you rise to the top (high heels not required).
